VAAG is a European cooperative project coordinated whose goal is to investigate linguistic and cognitive aspects of vagueness. We do not focus on the formal representation of vague expressions, but on questions like why and for what reason there is vagueness in the first place, which role vagueness plays in communication, and how vagueness is constrained within the sentence and in discourse. The project also investigates the approximative use of apparently precise expressions and the nature, in particular the granularity, of linguistic scales.
