Short description of project
Overall objectives are environment protection, improvement of cross-border territory infrastructure, as well as modal shift from road transport to short sea shipping. The aim of the Adriatic3S project is to enable and support effective development of Short Sea Shipping (SSS) as an integral part of the Adriatic transport network. The action will be based on the analysis of capacities of both the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Italy as well as on existing port features and possibilities for their reorganization as SSS centers. Based on elaborated preconditions and possibilities, the aim of this project is to give the overview of administrative, organizational and informational measures and strategic decisions on which the operative concept of SSS development in the Adriatic region will be elaborated. The Adriatic 3S work flow is divided into six work packages. The Short Sea Shipping (SSS) concept that will be developed within the project will elaborate on potentials and advantages of border cooperation between the Republic of Croatia and Italy, based on infrastructure capacities of Croatian and Italian ports. Also, the mutual database that will be developed within this project will facilitate information exchange and networking among the countries of the Adriatic region. Thus, within this project, information technology will be used in the transport process as a tool for facilitating and alleviating administrative and organisational procedures. As environmental issues are a growing concern throughout Europe, recommendations of the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) are to be adopted as basic development guidelines. Accordingly, the long-term objectives of this project are promotion of SSS between the Croatian and the Italian coast, decrease of cargo transport from the EU to the South-Eastern Balkans via Croatian roads, reduction of harmful fume emissions as well as the increase of transport in domestic ports.
