Short description of project |
The development of power electronics and converter techniques made possible the growing use of permanent magnet motors in modern electric drives. When compared with the other types of electric motors, the permanent magnet motors show superior performances. A crucial part of each permanent magnet motor is the permanent magnet. The applied permanent magnet material, its shape and characteristics substantially influence the characteristics and performances of the entire motor. The goal of this project is to develop an optimization tool which is able to find the optimal permanent magnet for a given machine design and required operational parameters. This project is the first step in the systematic approach to design of permanent magnet motors in which evolutionary optimization strategies will be combined with mathematical machine models in order to find permanent magnets whose geometry, magnetic and thermal properties, and their price will optimally fit the required motor performances, operational characteristics and design. |
