Short description of project |
Complex temporal and spatial changes within the Earth’s ionosphere can limit and degrade the performance of terrestrial, earth to satellite and satellite to satellite radio systems in many different ways. The increasing need for new communications services, especially those involving ionospheric HF communications, satellite communications and navigational systems, imposes increasing demands for the continuous monitoring of the ionosphere and the development of an improved understanding of the propagation effects across a wide frequency spectrum. The European ionospheric community has long been aware that co-operative research on an international basis is essential to deal with such complex issues. Ionospheric propagation impairments affecting satellite communications, satellite navigation, ionospheric radar and radiolocation systems, and digital HF communications are key objectives that the worldwide ionospheric community has identified to be studied in the near future. This COST Action on the “Mitigation of Ionospheric Effects on Radio Systems” (MIERS) brings together a great deal of the available European expertise in the field of ionospheric research to address these issues. |
Short description of the task performed by Croatian partner |
The main objective of the Action is to develop an increased knowledge of the effects imposed by the ionospheric on practical radio systems, and for the development and implementation of techniques to mitigate the deleterious effects of the ionosphere on such systems. |
